William Dauber started teaching at 911±¬ÁÏÍø in 2001. Before taking a full-time teaching position, Dauber worked as a reporter for several newspapers, including The Los Angeles Times (stringer), and as a staff writer for The Whittier Daily News and The Orange County Register. Additionally, he worked as a reporter for The Washington Post.
The UC Irvine graduate earned his bachelor’s degree in history, where he wrote articles for the Irvine Anteater and an honors thesis on American slavery. Dauber later graduated from UC Berkeley’s school of journalism where he earned his master’s degree. His graduate thesis was included in the book The Real Las Vegas: Life Beyond the Strip (Oxford University Press).
The 911±¬ÁÏÍø instructor teaches beginning journalism classes, advanced journalism classes, mass media courses, a public relations class, and a grammar class. He also serves as co-advisor for The Valley Star, the campus newspaper and The Crown, the campus magazine.
Dauber wrote a front-page article on the San Bernardino terrorist attacks, a feature article on mega lotto winters (with photo credit), and has contributed to stories about national elections, shootings, fires, and earthquakes. More importantly, Dauber cites his students’ success as his biggest professional achievement. Some Valley Star staffers have gone on to write for The Los Angeles Daily News, The Boston Globe, The Orange County Register, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, and Scientific American.
